Ebola patient Dr. Craig Spencer jamming out in Bellevue quarantine

Facebook

Dr. Craig Spencer is on the road to recovery with a banjo on his knee.

For the past week, the New York doctor infected with Ebola has been passing the hours by playing his banjo and working out on a stationary bike in his isolation unit at Bellevue Hospital.

Last week, Spencer, 33, requested that someone fetch him his banjo from his Hamilton Heights apartment, so he could have something to do while sitting in isolation, the Daily News has learned.

His team agreed to bring him the musical instrument.

Spencer's condition was upgraded from 'serious' to 'stable' last weekend, city Health Department officials said.

Spencer tested positive for Ebola on Oct. 23 and has been held in one of Bellevue's four isolation rooms since then.

His fiancée, Morgan Dixon, has been under mandatory quarantine at the couple's home since Oct. 25. The quarantine period for her and a friend ends Nov. 14.

A source said Spencer was expected to walk out of the hospital with a clean bill of health within the coming weeks.

A spokesman for the city's Health and Hospital Corp. declined to comment.
