Couple Weds Inside Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

On Tuesday afternoon, a mother and father married inside the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at Cook Children's Medical Center in Fort Worth.

On September 2, Kristi Nelson gave birth to twins but lost one of their twins as one of the boys was stillborn.

She and Justin Nelson decided that they would get married with the surviving twin close by. Son of couple, JJ survived but had come four months early and weighed just one pound 13 ounces. According to his mother, he has tripled in size since and the mother thanks god every day for JJ's better health. JJ has severely under-developed lungs and was kept in the NICU for eight long weeks.

The couple expects that they will take home their wedding gift in the next month or so. Just before the groom kissed his new bride again, the two said, 'We're just stronger than we ever were. We can make it through anything'.

According to the Nelsons, they will spend a few days together and they don't have the time or money to go on a full honeymoon yet. Adding to it, they said that bringing their son home is their No. 1 priority at present.

The staff of Cook Children's Medical Center helped the couple arrange a wedding ceremony, knowing that the couple wanted to get married but had been too busy in caring for their preemie son for the last two months.

The bride's wedding gown and flowers were donated by local businesses and of the family's friends provided the outfit for tiny ring-bearer JJ to wear.

The couple decided to share the story of their wedding so that it can reach to parents who have either lost children or struggled with a child fighting for life in the NICU.
