TUCSON (KGUN9-TV)-- Alzheimer's is a disease as mysterious as it is devastating. And even now, after decades of research we are not much closer to predicting its approach. But new research hints that paying heed to memory slips may hint at Alzheimer's down the road. Researchers followed more than 500 older patients for several years, watching for signs of dementia. They found those patients who complained of memory loss were more likely to develop Alzheimer's in the future usually about ten years after the first sign of memory loss. So is this forgetfulness always the first sign of dementia? Not necessarily. Some memory loss is normal as we get older. For example, it's one thing to forget where your keys are It's another to forget what keys are for.
